Our experts say

The Echeveria is a compact rosette succulent, highly valued for its geometric shape and fleshy foliage, usually in shades of green, grey or blue. In the image, a mature plant can be seen coming into bloom: from the centre of the rosette, slender stems emerge with small flowers in clusters, adding a light, vertical touch without losing the plant's neat, orderly character.
It is an ideal species for pots, planters and arrangements with other succulents, because it stays looking good all year round with very little care. Its key point is the balance between plenty of light and very free-draining substrate: when this is provided, the plant remains compact, with firm leaves and intense colour.

Benefits

  • Great ornamental value thanks to its structured rosette and colour.

  • Low maintenance and highly drought tolerant.

  • Ideal for pots and decorative arrangements with other succulents.

  • Can produce offsets, making propagation easier.

  • Flowering adds seasonal interest without requiring complex care.

Special care

  • Plenty of light; gentle morning sun or a bright outdoor spot is best. Avoid sudden exposure to direct sun if it is not acclimatised.

  • Use a specific cactus/succulent substrate with very good drainage; the pot should always have drainage holes.

  • Low watering: water only when the substrate is completely dry; reduce to a minimum in winter.

  • Avoid wetting the centre of the rosette to prevent rot.

  • Protect from frost and prolonged cold damp.

  • Remove dry leaves from the base to maintain airflow and cleanliness.

  • If it becomes stretched and loses its shape, it is lacking light: move it to a brighter spot.
