Our experts say
The Grevillea juniperina is an evergreen shrub of Australian origin, highly valued for its hardiness and its distinctive flowering in warm tones, which can repeat for much of the year in mild climates. It has a dense, branching habit, with fine, elongated leaves that add texture and a natural look. Its flowers, borne in clusters and with a distinctive shape, stand out for their colour and their ability to attract pollinators, making it a very interesting plant for lively gardens.
It adapts especially well to low-maintenance gardens, as it tolerates sun, heat and periods of drought once established. It works very well as a specimen shrub, in shrub masses or combined with other Mediterranean and xerophytic species, bringing contrast in form and a touch of colour without feeling overpowering.

Benefits
Highly ornamental, long-lasting flowering with great visual impact.
Attracts pollinators and supports a garden rich in biodiversity.
Highly resistant to heat and drought once established.
Adds fine texture and structure to garden compositions.
Low maintenance and good tolerance to demanding conditions if drainage is correct.
Special care
Place in full sun to ensure good flowering and a compact growth habit.
Plant in very free-draining soils; avoid heavy ground or waterlogging.
Moderate watering in the first year; afterwards, low and spaced-out watering.
Avoid over-fertilising and, especially, fertilisers high in phosphorus (many grevilleas are sensitive).
Light pruning after flowering or at the end of winter to maintain density and shape.
In a pot, use an airy growing medium and control watering so moisture does not build up around the roots.
Watch for chlorosis in very chalky soils; if it occurs, improve drainage and apply appropriate soil amendments.
