Our experts say

The Lantana camara is a very hardy and rewarding shrub, known for its continuous flowering and its ability to bring colour for months. It produces rounded flower clusters made up of small flowers that often change shade over time, creating vivid combinations in yellows, oranges, reds, pinks or whites depending on the variety. Its foliage is dense and lightly aromatic, and it grows quickly in warm weather, making it an excellent choice for sunny gardens, pots and low-maintenance borders.
It is especially useful in areas exposed to heat and sun, where many plants reduce their flowering. Once established, it tolerates drought well, and with light pruning it can be kept compact and highly floriferous. In addition, its flowers attract pollinators, bringing movement and life to the garden.

  • Performs well both in the ground and in pots and planters.

Special care

  • Needs full sun to flower intensely and maintain a compact habit.

  • Requires good drainage; avoid waterlogging, especially in winter.

  • Moderate watering during the first year; afterwards, low to moderate watering depending on heat and exposure.

  • Prune in late winter or early spring to encourage new shoots and abundant flowering.

  • Remove faded flowers if you want to extend flowering and keep a neat appearance.

  • Watch for aphids or whitefly if there is stress or poor ventilation.
